📚 3rd Grade Fall OST Reading Assessment – Tuesday & Wednesday
Our 3rd graders will take the Ohio State Test (OST) in Reading on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This is their first opportunity to take the assessment, and students are required to pass the 3rd-grade reading test before moving on to 4th grade. Students will have another opportunity to pass in the spring.
Parents, please help your child be successful by making sure they:

• Get a good night's sleep before each testing day.

• Arrive at school on time.

• Come to school ready to do their best!

We are cheering on our 3rd-grade readers! 💪📖

🧸 Parents, We Need Your Help! Please Keep Toys at Home!
We are experiencing an increase in students bringing toys from home, and these items are becoming a major disruption to our learning environment. Squishies, NeeDohs, slime, action figures, toy cars, and ALL other toys need to stay at home.
Toys are distracting students from learning, interrupting instruction, and sometimes getting lost or stolen. Moving forward, toys brought to school will be collected from students who do not follow this expectation.
Please check your child's backpack and remind them that school is for learning! We appreciate your help in keeping our classrooms focused, safe, and ready for learning. Education must remain our first priority!
⏰ Attendance Matters Every Day!
Every minute of instruction counts! Arriving late and leaving early means your child misses valuable learning time. We need our students at school, on time, and ready to learn every day.
Please make regular, on-time attendance a priority for your family. Together, we can help every Volney Defender succeed!
🎃 Halloween Parade & Fashion Show – Friday, October 30th
We are excited to celebrate Halloween at Volney! Please review the schedule below, as we have a NEW event this year.
👻 1st–5th Grade Halloween Parade

• Time: 10:00 AM

• Students will parade around the school, as they have in the past.

🕸️ NEW THIS YEAR: Halloween Fashion Show

• Time: 2:00 PM in the cafeteria

• This event is for students in PreK, Kindergarten, and the classrooms of Mercer, Hensley, and Pontikos.

• These students will participate in the fashion show instead of joining the morning parade.

Important Dismissal Information: Students will be permitted to leave with their families after their scheduled event. Please communicate with your child's teacher ahead of time to let them know your dismissal plans for that day. Early dismissal after the Halloween event will NOT count against your child's attendance.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership! Let's have a great week of learning at Volney Rogers. ❤️
Go, Volney Defenders!
