The Youngstown Board of Education and Youngstown City School District (YCSD) administration have had ongoing dialogue regarding the overcrowding at Kirkmere Elementary. The school’s enrollment has exceeded classrooms, which means the building is beyond capacity for current scholars assigned at Kirkmere.
Due to the overflow, 48 scholars who reside in the 8026-census (the closest in proximity) area will now be transferred to Volney Rogers Elementary at 2400 S Schenley Ave. for the 2023-2024 school year.
The board and district administration considered this decision carefully and concluded the most viable option.
We acknowledge that transitioning to another school can be challenging. The district has taken steps to make this process as smooth and effortless as possible. Volney Rogers is located only three minutes away by car from Kirkmere Elementary. If your scholar receives transportation, please do not worry, as this realignment will not affect their bussing.
Our entire district is rooted in the values of providing the highest quality education. Volney Rogers Elementary is as much part of that. Their vision is centered on growth and high expectations, bordered by engaging, magnificent teachers and staff.
